چکیده

• This paper describes a computational study of the thermal and chemical nonequilibrium occuring in a rapidly expanding flow of high-temperature air transported as a free jet from an orifice into lowdensity stationary air. Translational, rotational, vibrational and electron temperatures are treated separately, and in particular the vibrational temperatures are individually treated; a multi-vibrational temperature model is adopted. The governing equations are axisymmetric Navier-Stokes equations coupled with species vibrational energy, electron energy and species mass conservation equations. These equations are numerically solved, using the second order upwind TVD scheme of the Harten-Yee type. The calculations were carried out for two different orifice temperatures and also two different orifice diameters to investigate the effects of such parameters on the structure of a nonequilibrium free jet.

Passive Control of Hypersonic Boundary-Layer Transition using Regular Porous Coating

Passive control of hypersonic boundary-layer transition using porous coatings has been studied by theoretical analyses, experiments, and numerical simulations. It was found that porous coating stabilizes Mack’s second mode and destabilizes Mack’s first mode. However, there are only few studies on the stabilization efficiency of porous coating. And no work has been reported about the thermochemi...

Modeling of Strong Nonequilibrium in Nitrogen Shock Waves

One dimensional post-normal shock flow calculations are carried out using state-ofthe-art thermochemical nonequilibrium models. Two-temperature, four-temperature, and electronic master equation coupling models are adopted in the present work. In the fourtemperature model, the rotational nonequilibrium is described by Parker and modified Park models. In the electronic master equation coupling mo...

Modeling of Rotational Nonequilibrium in Post-Normal Shock Flow Analyses

Recent modeling of thermal nonequilibrium processes in simple molecules like hydrogen and nitrogen has indicated that rotational nonequilibrium becomes as important as vibrational nonequilibrium at high temperature. In this study, to analyze rotational nonequilibrium, the rotational mode is separated from the translational-rotational mode that is usually considered in two-temperature models. Th...

On a Numerical Model for Gasification of Biomass Materials: An Alternative Method to Combustion

In this paper, a thermochemical equilibrium model is used to predict the performance of a downdraft biomass gasifier. Numerical results are shown to be in good agreement with those of the experiments. Different biomass materials are tested using the model, and forest residual is shown to be the most energetic one. For this material, the gasification temperature, syngas composition and calorific...
